for the grooms…

Fellas, fellas, fellas! I have some fashion advice for you when it comes to wedding day attire. Now I know the local tuxedo shops might flame me for saying this but it’s JUST my opinion. My opinions do not mean it’s right or wrong just so you know this. For the faithful blog stalkers of mine you might notice in the past my enthusiasm when I get to photograph a groom in a purchased and fitted suit/tux. Well there is a reason for this. Think about it. On wedding day your bride is going to look absolutely and incredibly amazing. I can guarantee you that, they always do. She’s searched high and low for months to find the most stunning and beautiful gown she could find. There were many fittings, constant buzz and chatter about this gown with her friends. The bottom line here is there was a lot of effort on her part. You should do the same.

So what do you do? Take one visit to a tux shop and pick out something you wont try on again until wedding day? I’ve had many situations where my grooms were unhappy about their fit. It’s because your tux is fitted for the average Joe who might be a prom one week or a black tie gala the next. As a photographer and someone who’s been to many many weddings I think the grooms fashion is one of the MOST overlooked things. I really do think it makes all the difference when I’m photographing a groom in a tux or suit thats fitted to his measurements. Why pair up a gown that costs thousands of dollars with something thats been worn thousands of times? Think about it. Yes, the bride is the star of the show but the co-star (you) should compliment her. You’re important too! Yes it’s an added cost but think of it as an investment. You’ll wear it again! Seriously though, you can purchase a quality tuxedo from as little as $500. After you purchase your suit or tux it’s time for your groomsmen. I suggest bringing them to the rental shops. Just make sure your groomsmen don’t leave the shop until they’ve tried on their tux and had a blessing from the stores tailor. Also before they leave the tux shop make sure they have all their elements like, black socks, cufflinks, ties, shoes that fit etc…

Again, there is no right or wrong. This is just my opinion and I am not out to hurt the business of the local tuxedo rental shops. I just happen to think the groom is very important. I’ll leave you with a quote from a past bride of mine. This was minutes after they walked down the aisle. She had not went to the tux shop with him and didn’t know what he was renting. Now, I’m paraphrasing here but it went something like “Did you see _____’s tux? Wow he looks wack!”… I kid you not. Fella’s don’t let this happen to you.

Peace,
JP

Something so simple as a fitted black suit. Josh was styling for sure back in Oct of 2008. See the area in between his arms and his suit?

Lonnie rocked a fly tux from Hugo Boss.. I highly recommend checking out their suits and tuxes. Great prices for quality garments.

Mona made sure her man Andrew was styling on their wedding day in his three piece classic tux. Her dress was too fab for a rental tux to accommodate.

Sarmad was looking classic with a hand tied bow tie and his John Varvatos tux. Their 1 year anniversary will be Sunday!

Sticking with the bow ties.. Alex wore a nice hand tied one as well..

A groom with style for sure. From his Ray Bans to his Hugo Boss tux. Seriously though Alex is pretty jacked so a custom fit is a must when you’re buff lol.

I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t purchase my own for my wedding and tie my own bow tie. This tux was from Dolce & Gabbana. I went for a classic peak lapel with a modern (belt) finish. d&g and Hugo Boss are one of the only tuxes I found that had flat front pants with belt loops.

I was loving this look Ryan and his guys put together. It really was a perfect look for the lake.

How good does Jon look? Maybe it’s Elisabeth? He rocked all John Varvatos as well. In my opinion he nailed this, another great look on Lake George.

Onto time pieces.. Aside from being the ultimate grooms gift it’s a great way to finish off your wedding day attire.. Elisabeth got Jon this beautiful Oris.

My favorite, Rolex… Kate hooked up Alex with a sweet GMT..

My awesome wife got me a stainless Rolex Daytona!

Another sweet time piece Dominick received a BreitlingĀ from Carolyn the night before their big day. Nick also rocked his own tux…

and since he’s a baller šŸ˜‰ he bought his 8 groomsmen tuxes!

Sean bought a fly suit from Mark Thomas (they’re local).. he had it fitted European style..

Thats why he doesn’t look like he’s swimming in his suit. Thanks fellas!
