I think I have finally thawed out from shooting Katie and Ryan’s engagement photos in Lake Placid earlier this week. I can’t begin to describe how cold we all were. I brought Hayden along to assist and she said something like “never in my life have I ever been this cold!” It was a fun one for sure!
When Katie contacted me about their engagement shoot she said she loved the idea of a ski lodge / gondola type vibe and since I’ve never shot that before I was all about it. After our research, shooting in Lake Placid made the most sense. We set it off at Whiteface Mountain where at the base of the mountain it was only 14 degrees. We then took the gondola up 3,430 feet and stepped out into the coldest wind ever!! I think if it wasn’t windy we would have been ok but we made the most of it and I just love the images I captured up on top of the mountain. When we could not take anymore of the cold and wind we headed back down and continued our session down the road. Thankfully, Hayden mentioned how beautiful the Lake Placid Lodge was so we headed there. These folks could not have been more awesome and accommodating to us whether it was lighting fires or just general niceness.
I have to say this was a great engagement shoot to set off the 2014 season. Couples who can brave weather like this rock. After spending the day with Katie and Ryan I wish for it to be November already (ok not really… no offense I want summer first) so I can get them back in front of my lens! Thank you guys for having me and Hayden, your shoot was a blast!!
Meet Katie and Ryan!!
3,430 feet high..
Easily my favorite from the “up top” portion of the shoot..
It was so beautiful up there (and cold)
heading back down.. I love the pop of purple in this.. OK.. onto the next location.
Naturally warming up by the fire!!
The Lake Placid Lodge could not have been a better location to shoot in!
The absolutely stunning Katie.. she’s going to make one incredible bride.
I bet it just snows sporadically like all the time up in Lake Placid..
loveeee this b&w..
When pulling images we loved this one..
but her eyes in this scream.
You can always count on some pines for a pop of color this time of year.
and whats an Elario blog without a forehead kiss?
Adorable. I see this image of the cups getting heavily pinned.
A nice little hideaway..
One more with the frozen lake behind them.
and as always I end my shoots with my token “bling shot” don’t be blinded by the diamond 😉
and the turnaround!! I don’t know whats funnier, Hayden’s goofy face or her hat? See you guys soon!!
